Pop up trailers
Pop Up Trailers are also known as tent trailers, fold-down campers, folding camping trailers etc., Nowadays, they are called pop ups for short. For families with the twin objectives of travel and camping, pop up trailers are extremely cost effective. They weigh anything from 1500 – 4000 lbs and can be towed with considerable ease. You can hitch one to whatever vehicle you may happen to be using whether it is a truck, SUV or a large automobile. The cost varies between $5000 and $10000, depending on the quality and features.
Once at the campsite you can fold out the unit forming two wings. These become the sleeping quarters. It is the base of the unit that is used as a dinette with the accompanying equipment and storage area. A toilet, shower and a room with slide open doors can be really expensive. A combination of hard roof and heavy canvas effectively protect you from the elements.
However you have to be careful about a few things while using a pop up trailer. The pop up trailer has a tendency to sway over the highway while it is being towed. One of the causes is something what is called ‘light tongue weight’. About 12 to 15% of the weight of the pop up trailer should be on its tongue. For instance, if your trailer weighs 2500 lbs, it should weigh 300 to 375 lbs at the tongue. Conversely, if the tongue weighs too much in proportion it does not improve the sway any. A hitch that can distribute weight between the tow vehicle and the pop up trailers can also come in handy. Applying the brakes while swaying will only worsen the situation. In this connection it is a lot better if your trailer is equipped with brakes of its own.
If you keep these things in mind you can have a real good holiday with your pop up trailer.
